EYE OPENER: THE MUCH DELAYED RECOGNITION AT LAST FROM MY WIFE

EYE OPENER: THE MUCH DELAYED RECOGNITION AT LAST FROM MY WIFE

We did watch late night Netflix together so there wasn't a need to get up early but since it was a Sunday and also that I did not have a perfect excuse ready at my disposal this time to escape from like previous Sundays, I did enter the kitchen.

On top of that I also wanted to surprise her with my knowledge of at least one kitchen product.

So I risked to embark on this journey today. And today is the day, and I will make it my day!

I had worked out this scene in my mind yesterday before my sleep.

I will wake her up gently with a cup of tea in one of my outstretched hands. "Surpriiiise"..

How romantic!! you see...

I opened my refrigerator took out milk and kept it on stove for boiling.
Man seen from behind opening a refrigerator door, with light spilling out and illuminating his silhouette.

I thought, one day I would be wiping off clean the sheer blemish my wife has been putting on me of a "Non cooperative husband" as far as kitchen is concerned .

In fact she meant by that you know what..That I don't help her in cooking per se.

But what she never tells anyone is that who does all the dishes after her culinary adventures rather misadventures, the latter most of the times. She never ever acknowledged ME !!

But things were not as smooth as I had thought.I was finding it difficult to stand up, my eyes were still stuck like those of a three day old kitten.

A tired man with messy hair and drooping eyelids showing extreme fatigue.

I slid the lid of vessel a little to see milk boiling.. Not yet... seems there's time.

I was suddenly woken up from my hangover by the familiar thud of her sandals. She gets up from bed and hits the floor with her footwear. I still couldn't figure out why she did so.A legacy she inherited from her family....

I checked milk again to find no apparent changes.

Next came the noise of unscrewing thyroid tab bottle, another inheritance eh?

A close-up of a woman's palm holding several tablets from a thyroid medication bottle

Then washroom door closing... flush..door opening...nearing foot steps..

She came to kitchen to see me standing like a fully drenched cloth that was forgotten to keep inside on a rainy day.

"Wow John…Are you serious? My babe are you really serious? Making tea for me!!! O honey, you and your surprises, let me go to bed again to enjoy the rare experience to the most!!!".

She was excited. "Love you"..She hugged and pecked me...

A female white dove gently pecking her male partner while perched together

I felt proud of myself for the first time in life... in kitchen...An invisible pat landed on my back..

She went and checked the milk on burner... And then....

"YOU IDIOT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???!!!  DO YOU HAVE ANY SENSE WHAT YOU HAVE  DONE??!!..OH MY FAVORITE CUTE CONTAINER!!...YOU SPOILT THE PRESENT MY MOM HAD GIVEN ME.."

A woman in her 30s mid-shout, expressing anger during a heated argument

My intention was never to hurt her or my mother in law's sentiment for that matter.

To make tea you have to boil milk, which's a universal truth, isn't it? To do that you need a container,ok?

I didn't know what's the problem here. Is there a husband in this world who can make tea without milk??? (Am not referring to those 'colored' tea I mean... black or green..Am no racist, mind you)

I stood utterly clueless.

A confused man with furrowed brows struggling to understand his wife’s words.

Then I dared to ask sarcastically but carefully... "Why, nobody in your family ever made tea with boiled milk?"

She said with utmost contempt that she could muster..

woman in her 30s with a sarcastic expression filled with contempt and disapproval.

" Yes, in our family everyone makes tea with milk. But hadn't known anyone making tea with dosa batter "

"WHHAT..Wait wait.... what did you say? OMG was it dosa batter?!!!! Oh that's why it didn't boil so far!!!"

A transparent glass saucepan filled with white batter placed on a stove.

This 'moment of truth' tore my eyes open like that of a sleeping fish...

A startled man with wide-open eyes reacting to unexpected news.

"You better NEVER enter kitchen again for cooking...Restrict yourself to doing dishes only"

Wow!!! Finally... the much awaited recognition!!!!

man with a humorous expression biting a medal while posing triumphantly.
